I Let You In. Poem by Sandra Kavanagh Josefsson

I Let You In.

I let my guard down.
I let you in.
The only thing that was important to you,
was to win.

Empty promises, empty rooms.
Never felt so alone.
Opened my heart, my arms to you.
But you were always on the telephone.

The dreams I had, they turned to decay.
The hopes they lay like broken pieces
of glass strewn across the floor.
The only place they were going, was out the door.

Don't tell me you love me,
because thats all pretend.
They are just pretty words you say
at the end of the day.

I just wanted you to be you
and that the love you gave was true.
But I soon found out you were incapable of love.
No use praying to the heavens above.

I let you in.
I let my guard down.
Now I'm crying, broken on the floor.
Where are all the promises you swore?
