I Look At You... Poem by Miriam Carreon

I Look At You...

Looking at you now,
I feel heavy,
and light.

The first time I saw you,
I can still remember...

The pleasant heat,
Outside,
with the sun shining, friendly,
along with a cooling breeze.

You smelled nice,
as you always do.
(Is that what she smells now?)
It was just a nice feeling,
to be smiled at
by you.

And everything since then,
was nothing but light,
and happy,
and smiles.

Memories of a friendly sun,
with a friendly breeze,
cooling my neck
as I thought fondly of you.
And the feelings grew,
from friendly to warm,
and then it was love, all at once.
All at once.

Now, the feelings are still there,
your love,
your eyes,
the smell of your neck
Except that, all at once,
they aren't for me.

Looking at you now,
with your right arm around
a white pretty girl,
(does she know that your arm,
throbs achingly when it's cold?)
with the sun shining friendly
and the breeze cooling your necks.
I know that
we had a moment like this,
that what she feels
you made me feel,
and what you feel
you felt for me.

How can this happen?
I ask.

But then again,
it has happened before.

so I just look at you two,
and I smile,
I can choose to smile,
after all,
for the sun is still friendly,
outside is still pleasant
and the cool breeze still
is around.
