I love it when the snow falls,
Watching children's laughter echo
through the air,
Their voices rising as they slide
On the frozen surface of Nallah Mar,
Now buried beneath the road.
They build snowmen with friends,
Engaged in snowball battles,
Fighting the imagined enemy
Who stole their garden—
Where silver flowers of fresh snow
Once bloomed in quiet beauty.
It brings back memories of my childhood,
Laughter with my brothers and sisters.
I would exclaim with joy, with other children,
Watching snowflakes drift like fallen
Mughal soldiers to the earth.
That sight made our hearts roar
With victory against the Mughal warriors.
In unison, in great exuberance, we cried,
'See, the Mughals are falling! '
The snowfall and snowball fights
Filled our heart with a radiant glow.
Now, I long to see the Neo-Mughals fall,
Like snowflakes, heavy and quiet,
Dissolving in the winter's embrace.
Kashmiris so love—from the ancient day,
Snowfall and Snowball-fights.
