I Love To Lie And Listen In A Wood Poem by Sheena Blackhall

I Love To Lie And Listen In A Wood

I Love to Lie and Listen in a Wood
(The Old Line Ballater)

This is a sanctuary. In solitude
I eavesdrop on the chatter of the trees
I love to lie and listen in a wood

Flittering wings and feathers are mind food
Beech branches bend before the bosky breeze
I love to lie and listen in a wood

For all is gracious here, fruitful and good
Bees drink the heather pollen to the lees
I love to lie and listen in a wood

The sylvan and the cyclic suit my mood
I slough internal cares off by degrees
I love to lie and listen in a wood

Near where the thrush and blackbird raise their brood
The burnished, brimming river slips with ease
I love to lie and listen in a wood

The sun and moon through latticed leaves intrude
By turn. The flickering woodland patterns please
I love to lie and listen in a wood
My cup of days flows bright with gratitude
