I'm Africa Poem by EZEKIEL HARUNA DANBAKI

I'm Africa

I'm Freedom
I'm Survivor
I'm the undying Phoenix in these saucy wars
Fought against madness, hate and grief
And now I rise
Refuting every hideous lie that statistics justify

I'm Africa!
I'm the screams of excited children chasing one another down shady streams
I'm the cozy songs of happy housewives
Going about their chores
Babies strapped to their toughened backs
Crossing swept surroundings
Making the African homes

I'm the chattery waters of Victoria falls
The soaring spires of Kilimanjaro
I'm thedust plume of the Sahara
The meandering alluvials of the Nile
I'm Africa!

Through winds that ruffle the tranquil lakes
Through the swirling ocean of colonial greed
I rise!
I rise!
I'm the dark ghostly storm hurrying across the morning sky, reaching you
I'm Africa!
