I'M Sorry Poem by Fiona Burgess

I'M Sorry

I'm sorry that I hurt you
That I made you cry
I'm sorry that I had to leave
Without saying goodbye.
I'm sorry that you loved me
Even though I told you not to
I'm sorry I couldn't love you back
It's something I just can't do.
I'm sorry you burnt our memories
Of happy days and smiles
I'm sorry that you now avoid me
By running away, miles and miles.
I'm sorry, but I really tried
To make you see how I am
I'm sorry that you refused to see it,
But quite honestly, I just don't give a damn.
I'm sorry that I can't take it back
Or repair your broken heart
I'm sorry but it's time to move on
And stop pulling me apart.
I'm not yours, I never was
I told you time and again
I'm sorry you never listened to me
And now you say your soul is slain.
I'm sorry that I could never be
The partner that you so craved
But loner is far more my style
My heart's been dead to long to be saved.
And so I'll give you apologies
And I hope someday you'll realise
I'm truly sorry that I hurt you
But I'm not designed for such emotional ties.
