I Pride Myself That In Poetry Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Pride Myself That In Poetry

Rating: 5.0

Telling my own inner Truth-
And that telling the Truth is in its way
What it really means
To live in and for Poetry-

But perhaps
Telling the Truth is also a kind of Game-

I say ‘this’
I contradict it with ‘that’
I laugh here I cry there
And Irony plays in whatever way it does -

And the Poetry is too a Game,
Flat prosy one- dimensional confessional
That does not justify being called Poetry at all.
