I Run After Everything That Runs Poem by Monzer Masri

I Run After Everything That Runs

I am afraid That someone might come
And avoid me this war
Because I carry a dead name
And my strength is stripped of leaves.
I am afraid That someone might come
And say to me:
'Let the dead
bury their dead
and follow me! '
So I follow him
Dragging my dead
Inside my heart.
He goes along singing:
'I was not burn to follow anyone'
I follow him
singing:
'I was not burn to follow anyone'.
Because I lack everything
I eat the crushed garland leaves
And in every time
I forget if I do that
I die.
I am afraid That someone might come
And recognize my back among
the faces
and call me by name and nickname
and prevent me from going where
(my clothes suit the weather) .
He said he would block my way
I... my self
Don’t know my way.
I go with air.
I am afraid That someone might come
And grab me by my sleeve
or clutch my leg
so I can’t run
after
everything
that runs.
