I Saw A Red Bird Today Poem by Pearl L Johns

I Saw A Red Bird Today

Eight long years ago I lost my best friend in the whole world.
My mom, the bravest, kindest woman I have ever known in my life.
You fought so hard against the terrible disese that wracked your body
Until God took you home with him for eternal life.

Every day I missed you so much it physically hurt.
Not just me, but by us all.
My dad, my brother, my husband,
But most of all, by my son who was still so very small.

One day as we drove down the lane,
A Red bird flew in front of the car.
My son looked at me with the sincerity of a child
And said the bird was a hello from you from afar.

It seemed so strange at first,
That every time it seemed like life was just dragging me down.
I would see a Red bird fly whizzing by,
And I knew it was from you, telling me to smile and not frown.

It lifts my heart every time I see one.
I know you are there watching over me every step of the way.
Guess what, my son, mom mom says hi,
Cause I saw a Red bird today.
