The Butterfly, The Dragonfly And The Hawk Poem by Pearl L Johns

The Butterfly, The Dragonfly And The Hawk

First into my life came the dragonfly.
We were best friends as babes in diapers and still are best friends today.
My dragonfly, you have had more than your share of sorrow over the years.
Yet, you are always the strong one to your family and friends.
You have a very strong steel spine that provides your strength,
Both to you and to others.
You have a heart capable of exquisite amounts of love
towards the people you care for.
I salute you.

Next, into my life came the butterfly. So small and fragile looking
as if a wind could blow you away. I lovingly call you my flutterby.
You have looked the shadow of death in the face so many times.
Death of others and most recently the possibility of your own.
But, you refuse to give in to the fear that must live in your heart.
Like a lion you stare it straight into the soul of its eyes and move on.
I admire you greatly my flutterby.

Now, I have the hawk in my life.
Perhaps, you my friend have had more showers of pain
in your life than most people.
But like most hawks, though small of stature,
you have the courage and ferocity to carry on through whatever
adversity comes your way. You are fiercely loyal to those you care for.
You have a very introspective soul, that perhaps while attuning
you to the feelings of others,
may also cause you great pain.
But you accept that pain, and deal with it with extraordinary courage.
This is not what most people would do.
I am most grateful to have you in my life.

Together, you three who are not of my blood,
and who do not even know one another,
You are not just my friends.
You are my sisters.
Together you bind a ring around my heart that is stronger than
any steel or metal made.
You make me laugh when I want to cry.
You show my heart the light, when I want to see the dark.
You comfort ME, at times when it is I who should comfort you.
I could not ask for more from friendship than from the three of you.

I can only hope that I can give you back
even a small part of what you give to me.
I will be forever blessed to have you three in my heart.
The Butterfly, the Dragonfly, and the Hawk.

As well as the butterfly :) A piece of me, within your own world.
