I Saw You Poem by Michael P. Johnson

I Saw You

“While passing by your house last night
I saw you through the wall
You thought it safe without the light
It wasn’t safe at all

I saw you in your shameful state
I saw you so unkempt
The things you did, you know I hate
Don’t think that you’re exempt

It’s through my love, my saving grace
You’ve freedom from your ties
But if you wish to see my face
In life you must be wise

You know my love for you is true
I’m faithful night and day
Why treat me then the way you do?
Why throw my love away?

I’m going now from out your sight
I’ll take from you my leave
My warning child, don’t treat as slight
For then it’s you; who’ll grieve

This life you need to give much thought
You have but only one
The time you’ve left is awfully short
How soon it could be gone

So turn repent from sinful life
Push all your filth aside
Come back to be a faithful wife
Return to me my bride

You look at me, as though I’m strange!
How can I so forgive?
The way I am, I cannot change
Return my love and live”
