I See Lovers Poem by Edwina Reizer

I See Lovers

I see lovers wherever I go
but they do not see me.
Their looks are just for each other
and I wonder how I can be
content without the eyes of a lover
shining for my sight?
I long for his heart to love me
and warm me in the night.

Nights are cold and lonely
and my thoughts are lonely too.
My lover, you're with another
and my heart is missing you.
I try to avert my eyes now
from wherever lovers are found.
For to see the happiness between them
makes me come unwound.

If only wishes could find their way
to reach you then you'd feel
what I'm feeling when you're not here
and what that does reveal.
A soul that's lost in a world of lovers
whose eyes don't look like mine.
I don't belong to that world anymore.
I belong where lovers pine.
