I Should Have Poem by Ludolf Dauphin

I Should Have

I should have known
never to let you see my heart,
let you peak deep in my soul,
through my eyes, my world.
I should have known
never to let you see
my pertinence,
never showed you
that I care, that I love,
that I need, nor want.
I should have let my heart
my love be silent
like death's timeless end.
I should have never let you dream
my dream, see my destiny
that I couldn't see my life without you,
without love.
I should have known
never to wear my heart so blindly.
