I Stand Still Poem by Douglas Willrich

I Stand Still

Standing in the morning glow, listening to the sound of the world, I begin to reminisce over days past. Looking for you in everything I do, I stand still beginning to feel the creeping darkness. I gave up on our love, I stood strong and tried to deny any accountability I had in the matter. You've gone now, living a happier life than I could have offered. Over the many years I've learned that I was the reason things fell apart. Forgiveness is something I could never ask for, nor expect. I just stand in the morning glow, feeling not the warmth of the weakening world but only the darkness within my own soul. For everything, I offer my deepest heartfelt apology. Though it means little at this point, just know you'll always be in my heart.
