I Struggle For A Sense Of Identity Poem by Francis Duggan

I Struggle For A Sense Of Identity

I struggle for a sense of identity
And I do not know the person who is me
The use by date from me not far away
As I struggle on through life from day to day
Does it matter If I'll never be a poet
Or even one of minor literary note
Immortality for human kind based on a lie
The fact is we are mortals born for to die
The dreaded use by date to me is near
But 'tis only the fear of death I do fear
Success and failure at the end the same
The Reaper will not spare you for your fame
The lowly earth worm lives where our last remains do lay
For what is born must die for that is Nature's way.
