I Too Am A Self Centred Person Poem by Francis Duggan

I Too Am A Self Centred Person

I too am a self centred person like billions of others out there
And in a World where billions grow hungry self centredness it isn't rare
I remember a saying from my school days each one for him or herself and God for us all
I must be a negative person such negative stuff to recall
We all are born with our human frailties and my frailties I cannot transcend
Of others I'm not very trusting why should I otherwise pretend
I admire people who work on behalf of the homeless they are such blessed people indeed
The World better for them living in it and many more of their kind we do need
I too am selfish in my own ways a fact that I do not deny
But I'm not unusual in that sense since what I say to many apply
If I said I am a great person then that would be a bare-faced lie
The selfless sad to say are not many there's better and there's worse than I,
Wish that I could say that I am unselfish but that would be bending the truth
But I can feel sorry for others I am not devoid of all ruth.
