I tried to know,
What was that hidden secret,
That you were scared to divulge;
Why were you afraid of people?
Did you fear it would bring down,
The castles of religion?
If you had only told,
What is the zero bum,
The whole secret,
That you held close,
To your chest,
Would get exposed;
You, too, dear Maulana,
Would get exposed,
Though you had camouflaged,
Your real face,
By the greenary of your Mathnavi;
Stories and anecdotes!
I could but see through your gimmicks,
What you could not boldly tell:
The secret of all genuine mystics!
I Am He whose name is I Am!
When awareness comes,
That I am 'The I Am',
The sense of separation vanishes;
No wailing! No lamentation!
We will not begin our book,
With these opening verses:
(O' listen from the reed to the grievances,
Of what separations breed;
From the reedbed I am cut off;
My music makes men and woman,
Moan and mourn;
While I tell these tales of separation,
From the source;
For narrating my pain of separation,
I want the bosom that is sliced to pieces,
And I want the heart that bleeds;
Whoever fall away from his true self,
Will seek and toil until he returns to the source.)
