I Try Not To Cry Poem by Joyce Hemsley

I Try Not To Cry

Once we were friends and lovers together
I recall how we were ~ you and I.
We walked and enjoyed the sunny weather
By the lake as the swans drifted by.

Oft' we would stay at the old Country Inn
Where the musical score was a lullaby,
You promised to love me forever and ever
But death came to our door as time went by.

Once we were friends and lovers together
I never imagined for a moment you'd die
But you did my dear, in depressing weather
And the words on your stone never shine.

I'd love to return to the old Country Inn
where the wine and cuisine left us high,
I would walk by the lake, feeding the swans.
This is my story - and I try not to cry.
