I've been hurt before you know
Those aweful words cut deep
And left me wounded lying down
My eyes were wept with weep
I only tried to show my love
I'm not a perfect man
And beaten down I was at times
My hurting soul began
The softest heart I tried to show
By doing deeds so right
But somehow they weren't good enough
I didn't want to fight
So I've been hurt before so bad
My heart was scarred inside
Your healing touch of love divine
Of joy my tears I cried
