I Wannabe You - Poem by Tara Star

I wanna be able
To feel like you do.

Cry at sad films
Touched when somebody recites
A love poem

Guilt when committing a crime
Pain when I trip on stairs…

But sadly,
I can’t.

I’m a walking robot,
I roam and roam
Until my battery goes dead.

I wish I could
Hug everybody I meet
Like I used to,
As a clueless kid.

Well maybe,
I didn’t acquire
This much knowledge
Back then.

And I wish hurtful comments
Could wreck me,
Or a knife stabbed in my back,
Could hurt me.

I wish I could feel
Anything at all,
Other than nothing.

I yearn to miss,
To care and to worry.
How does it feel like,
To be looking forward to something?

I don’t think
I remember.
