I Want The Hat Poem by Alexandre Nodopaka

I Want The Hat

I Want The Hat

I envy the hat
Saginaw Morgan Grant wears
and I want to wear it
every time I feel nostalgia
for selling Alaska
to the South borders.

To this day I regret
for the smoke and mirror trade
pale face pulled.

The White Man never
understood
Indian giving.

Too bad that reincarnation
doesn't work on everybody.

Had it worked
we would've traded the name
of our tribe
from Sac and Fox Nation
to Sock It To 'Em Nation
just to stay in the tradition
of our naming.
