I Was Married For Over 26 Years Poem by Raymond Farrell

I Was Married For Over 26 Years

Rating: 5.0

I was married for over 26 years
And unfortunately my wife passed away
Clearly, the mechanics of copulation
And other matters leading up to
Or involving the act of procreation
Or lovemaking or whatever you wish to call it
Were explored and indulged in
It is easy for people to describe and recall such details
But all they are describing
Is the physical act which is superficial and common
But some fools take to doing this with zeal
They assume the role of Christopher Columbus discovering the Americas
And the rest of us, are by default, relegated to the role
Of the Natives on the shore watching his arrival
But true love between people in love
Is unique and cannot be reduced to mere words
Which are an unreliable vehicle
To transmit meaning or impart understanding
Of this matter
It is all too profound
Yeah beautiful
Science cannot adequately explain it
It exists because it must
And it must
Because the world would perish without it.
