I Went In Search Of My Lost Self

I WENT IN SEARCH OF MY LOST SELF

I went in search of my lost self-
I came across piles of old manuscripts
Stories of my mind long since forgotten-
I was happy at first to see them
I greeted them like old friends with warm eyes
But concealed, they came with a clear demand
For more and more of my time-

Would I give it?
Or would I sacrifice one part of myself for another?
Would I say as I had so often ‘only the present and future self is real'?
Or would I try to meet and know them and somehow save them as myself again?

I do not know
I write this poem too as my real self is somewhere just beyond the now -
In the present in the future where my hands are now typing-
