I Will Not Love You Poem by Richard Trembath

I Will Not Love You

I will not love you
In a way that will destroy me

But yet as something
Pleasant in my life,

I will not love you
Day by day or hour by hour

But oft' times dreams of you
Will haunt the night.

Though walls of stone
And gates of iron protect me

‘Tis only you shall
Ever have the key,

So be my friend
And I shall not reject you

Enhance our lives
By being you and me.
