I Wonder Why Poem by Carmen Cilla Cook

I Wonder Why

I wonder why, I met this guy
That said he’d never tell a lie
I wonder why, I took huge risks
To end up on his hit man lists
I wonder why, my skin would bruise
Every time I copped abuse
I wonder why, my children cry
Just thinking about this nasty guy
I wonder why, a man is born
With so much hatred and such scorn
I wonder why, I didn’t see
Each time his fist would come for me
I wonder why, I lost all hope
And often wished I had a rope
I wonder why, I misplaced touch
With all my friends that mean so much
I wonder why, I couldn’t see
That all I’d need was family….
I wonder why, I didn’t cry, AT ALL about this nasty guy! ! ! !
