I Wondered Lonely As A Leaf Poem by Samantha Campbell

I Wondered Lonely As A Leaf

I wondered lonely as a leaf
that sails across and Autumn sky
when all at once I saw a reef
a host of colors passing by
beside the sand beneath the shells
with a stem at end my lonely leaf trails

Continuous as the wind that blows
and send the troubles away
they glide within the air and flow
along the horizon on a breezy day
77 I saw gathered in a circle
so many colors yellow green and golds

The branches from which they fell stick out
reaching down to the ground to get
a last touch before they went about
with they're flying frenzied fit
I thought and wondered but hardly saw
that these little things were without a flaw

For oft when I take my daily walk
in sometimes a direction others not
they rustle in the wind I hear natures talk
which belongs to the forgotten ones that rot
stepped on and crumbled by a strangers feet
brought to rest my now lifeless leaf
