(i Would) Poem by Jonathan Land

(i Would)

Rating: 2.7

I would
sing myself to sleep
if I did not already know
I would be so enchanted
with my own voice, that
I would stay awake
for a hundred years.
I would
write poetry all over
my bedroom walls,
but I know
the words would
wake me up
in the middle of the night.
I would
remember the dreams
I dream when
I am asleep, but I
fear they would
keep me busy
all my waking hours.
If I could I would
bless you a thousand
times, for every little
breath.

If the skies were mine
to open wide, and let
every man or woman
see what lies beyond,
if I commanded every
sunrise and sunset.
If I could close the skies,
keep you here forever,
against your will,
only because I
love you so much, I fear
I would.
And that is why
I cannot.
And that is a
reason to live.
