(i Have Heard The Screams) Poem by Jonathan Land

(i Have Heard The Screams)

Rating: 2.7

I have heard the screams
of millions
in complete
disharmony
I've heard you scream out
onto the night
never shall I
be free

I've seen them all
dressed in white
I've seen them
dressed in black
Oh, I've seen them marching
to their doom
and never looking
back

I've tasted
bitter ashes
I have tasted
bitter shame
I have tasted blood
that was not mine
and I will never
be the same

I've felt you arm
hug my back
I've felt your
hammering fist
Of all the things
that I have felt
those two
I have missed

I have marched with
the religious man
he of no
belief
And when we stopped
to camp and rest
we both look back
with grief

For the hills were alive
with the sound
but he was dead
inside
And as for me
I couldn't even
tell you
why I cried

I don't know
what else to write
I don't know
what to say
will you ever
call me mad
cause I can't
find the way

Will you understand
my words
and waltz into
my head
or will you turn to me
and say
it's time to go
to bed
