I Write Because I Enjoy Writing Poem by Francis Duggan

I Write Because I Enjoy Writing

I'm not one who is an asset to the honourable wordsmith trade
Where only the very finest can ever hope to make the grade
And I never solicit for comments a promise to myself I've made
It doesn't worry me the least bit if to oblivion I will fade
In my young years in Duhallow in the fields by Millstreet Town
Full of silly young ambition I used to daydream of literary renown
To me now it does not matter that I've never known of literary fame
And I won't die disappointed to know mine will be a forgotten name
I am not a literary critic I leave that to those of literary degrees
I am just an ordinary rhymer who only pen stuff for mind ease
I write because I enjoy writing and though I am not one who is well known
I believe in the old adage that simply states each to their own
For many years I've been a rhymer and for longer than that a rhyme buff
And though I will not be remembered for it I have penned a lot of stuff.
