Ice Cream Poem by Daniel Y.

Ice Cream

Sugar coated ice, with flavors 31.
Children chase down the multi-colored truck
with savagery.
No line forms long.
Daiquiri tears and sherbert drops
melting spots in the summer concrete.

The man from India knows there will be another life
and succombs to the appetite
of voracious first-graders.
Nameste.

Not only do these first-graders have VORACIOUS APPETITES they also chase their food WITH SAVAGERY. This is not a sweet view of childhood, But anyone who spends time with GROUPS of children learns that. The line about the man from India believing in another life slammed me! I'm assuming it means he can accommodate their atavistic (?) behavior because he senses it is part of our larger existence. The last word is puzzling - I looked it up in my Dict'y of Hinduism but didn't find it listed. I'm sure it holds some kind of key?
