Identifying Myself Poem by Randy McClave

I identify myself as an American
Though my heritage is Scottish and Irish and Puerto Rican,
I'm not red, and I am not blue
I am instead red, white and blue, through and through.
My forefathers were immigrants unto this land
When they landed upon this country's sand,
And just because of them
I am American! and I proudly sing America's hymn.
I kneel to no man, but only to God
He is the truth the resurrection and the rod,
Unto no other man will I or have I ever kneeled
The cross is my only and my greatest shield.
When Uncle Sam did once call
My family served and fought so democracy wouldn't fall,
My family have fought for freedom and against a dictator
They served, they fought some died, but none was a traitor.
I love all my family and my neighbors
No matter of their race or creed of belief or labors,
No soul was ever created different than me
Through the same eyes all of us God does see.
There is only one flag that I will ever proudly fly
Only one flag to wave high and proudly in the sky,
Only one flag which my belief and my thoughts dictates
That is the flag of the United States.
I love my country patriotically indeed
Our forefathers created it with the planting of freedom's seed,
I respect and obey all the laws that they had wrote
No one is ever above the law that they once spoke.
I am not a racist a insurrectionist a bigot or a terrorist
I'll fight them all with my opinion and my vote and my fist,
In this great country with every belief and race for every woman and man
With them I also firmly identify myself as an American.
