if things could be what things could have been,
if things could know what things could have known,
if things could show what things should have shown,
if things could mean what things could have meant

if actions were but an act,
if words were but a verb,
if definitions were but a thought,
if truths were but a fact

if displays were more than just a sight,
if scents were more than just a smell,
if conversations were more than just a talk,
if hugs were more than just a gesture

if smiles were kept hidden,
if cheeks coloured up in secret,
if nudges knew not of reasons,
if flips were meant for the inside

if feelings could only be but
feelings for what laid deep within
