If I Could Only Tell You Poem by Bascombe Smith

If I Could Only Tell You

It is my love
I'd like to tell you
but can you think of anyone who

can count the grains of sand
on all the beaches
who can measure all the land
the sunlight reaches
every single clear blue day?

How could one phrase
the beauty of the sun that rises
how much the gloomy night despises
the golden day that slowly does unfold?

So how could I have thought to paraphrase
how much I long for your embrace
whenever I catch sight of you?
