If I Were To Die Tonight Poem by Robert James Busby

If I Were To Die Tonight

If I were to Die Tonight

To surmount egotism
you said
the only way
is to place
two fingers to your head
and then bang!
Pretend that you were dead.
How French New Wave,
how Goddard.
Not a Nihilist
just a charmer
as whimsical as light
squeezing the last
droplets of dream
out of the night.
