If It Was Up To You Poem by Francis Oaks

If It Was Up To You

Rating: 4.5

Where would I be now?

I hear you

Scream, crash and break

Your voice, a plate, our hearts

You feel you can't see the same way

But you fail to even look at each-other

You think you drifted apart

But your fists have never been closer

But do you remember a time before the fighting ever happened

A time of peace and love, laughter and enjoyment

You brought lives into this world; my brother, my sister

You made their souls from joy and harmony

And made them smile from your wholehearted care.

But when you were creating this family picture;

A black memory you tried to erase is wedging its way in

Now I'm here, you deepest regret, plastered onto your family canvas

Put in as an after thought, but you'd never forget about me

Because the love of kin will always remind you

Of the trash you tried to leave behind.

No-one likes this family add-on, and everyone blames you

If you had an eraser, my life would be a lost tale from long ago

You'd take my life before it began, thank god you didn't get away with that

Now she takes your mistake, and puts them into punches.

She'll throw a plate, scratch your eyes, for the poison you have smuggled in

You want rid of me and have a family alone

But she doesn't want your accompaniment.

So you broke the tale of you and them, left them to fend and fight on their own

Abandoning someone whilst they have your children, another familiar story.

But you forget to see the innocent eyes of those who love you

They see you be hit, they see you shout

They see you scream, crash and break

And their hearts slowly begin to tare.

But mine was broke before they were born

Waking up every day not knowing what a real 'Dad' was meant to be.

But that got me wondering, you didn't care for the dad I was meant to have

So did you ever care for the family that bounds you now?
