If Thou Wouldst Share Thy Humbled Heart Poem by Denis Martindale

If Thou Wouldst Share Thy Humbled Heart

If thou wouldst share thy humbled heart with strangers here and there,
Behold the love thou couldst impart with strangers everywhere.
And thus pour out each truth called wise, to heal each fragile soul,
That reads thy words with gladdened eyes, though tears couldst make them whole.
If thou couldst share thy noble mind with thoughts compressed in rhymes,
Behold the smiles that thou couldst find that poets gain sometimes.
And think of how each structured phrase brings strangers close to learn
Yet who wouldst count a thousand ways that strangers thus discern?
They see the sights that words explain at every single stage,
Behold such things within the brain once written on a page.
The Lord bestows His gracious gifts to poets, young and old,
That each imagination drifts through rhythms that unfold.
And thus the poets write and write, creating something new,
Perchance a song that brings delight, and not just to a few.
The little child, once filled with tears, the young man, in his prime,
Gets blessed perchance one hundred years, because God blessed each rhyme.
If thou wouldst share thy humbled heart with strangers here and there,
Behold the love thou couldst impart with strangers everywhere.
