Illusion Poem by Lori Israel

Illusion

I am not yours
I do not belong to you
I have another
and I promised to be true

He adores me
He says I'm like no other
He insists I am the one
but to me he seems a brother

You are not mine
You no longer belong to me
You possess another
and with her you should be

She loves you
She unto you, only returns
She gazes lovingly
while your heart yearns

They trust the vows
They believe the illusion
They become complacent
while we ache for seclusion

We are no longer an us
We will never again be one
We better go now
this cannot be undone

It was beyond beautiful
It was once pure and free
It must now and forever
be kept under lock and key
