Im Going Down The Blues Poem by Karl Newton

Im Going Down The Blues

I'm going down the blues
Up the cattel road I'm gonna go
More in hope
Than expectation
All passion, fight
No glory
That's the age old story

Saturday morning
The Bullring's alight
A breakfast of bacon, sausage and eggs
A hearty bite
Trip to the bookies
An accumulator placed
2quid into a grand
Should all 16 legs land

A walk up the hill through the former industrial heart of this city,
To meet the lads at the boozer
Last one to the bar is a rotten loser,
Pre match chat and banter a plenty
Sweepstake on the first scorer
Fiver to a ton
As long as you've won

Half hour to kick off and into the ground
Grab a quick cheeseburger on the way in
Bostin for three pound

A city paints itself in blue
A sea of hope
A faithful crew

St. Andrew's roars
A thunderous sound
As hearts unite on hallowed ground

A roller coaster, we learn to yearn
Frustration's grip, a heavy weight
Disappointment's sting, a bitter fate
Disbelief sets in
A foggy mind
But laughter's key, a cure to find
If tears do fall, let humor shine
A silver lining, a hope divine

The road is long
They'll be joys and sorrows too
But the heart of our city will always be blue
We'll fight till the end
On a Saturday afternoon there's only one place you'll find me
On that you can depend
I'll be at st Andrews
I'm going down the blues
To keep right on till the end
My friend

In victory or defeat
We stand
United as one
Hand in hand
For Birmingham
Our city's pride
Our passion burns
No matter the tide
We're all along
For the ride
