I'm Sorry, Skyscraper Poem by Rose Stern

I'm Sorry, Skyscraper

I never wanted to tell you,
Not the way I did,
Not rushed and without explanation.
I wanted a calm talk,
Quiet, and soft,
Where we both get to say our piece,
Without interruptions.
I didn't want him to tell you,
To take my choice away,
To force us in a situation,
That neither of us had any say.
I hated it,
I hated it,
I hated him
But I never hated you.
Just the way I was forced to tell you.
I never wanted to hurt you,
I know you said last year,
You'd been single your whole life,
And you wanted to keep it that way.
I wanted to respect that,
I can't force you to do anything
But I was forced to ask,
And pressure you,
And I'm sorry.
I really am.
