Imprisioned Poem by Elaine Battersby

Imprisioned

My world seems much smaller now.
Lonelier, more hostile.
I feel imprisioned in my body.
Trapped, restricted, by my aching limbs,
anxiety and pain.
Where is the free and eager soul
l once new.
The warrior, the adventurer,
who relished love and life.
Now my spirit feels heavy,
Injured, fearful, sad.
Weakened by the pain
and uncertainty, which has invaded my inner soul.
But today is a new day.
I have moved from a place of darkness,
to one where the suns rays have broken through.
The light shows me a different path,
which l am ready to explore again.
My steps a little lighter,
more certain
