In A Box Poem by Suzawaka Phiri

In A Box

I proudly live in a box,
My whole life, I have lived in this box
Because my home, my life, is in this box.
The love between my mother and father
Though I envy it not, led me into this box
And if I was to speak of it,
Either one will find themselves in a box
Because when their love peaked,
One of them was taken into the box.
My aunt's love for me led me to this box.
My uncle's love for me led me to this box.
There are storms outside the box,
There are wild beasts outside the box,
There are demons outside the box,
So I find comfort living inside the box.
One day, there was a whisper in the box.
I was surprised
As there was no one else in the box
Because I was alone in the box.
What was this whisper in the box?
How did it enter this box?
Such were my questions and never more.
This voice commanded I leave the box,
It opened my eyes to see,
That there was only darkness in the box.
The command was that,
I leave the box and nothing more.
For a blonde in the sky,
Stood outside the box.
