In Every Version Of Tomorrow Poem by Martins Akhoeneto

In Every Version Of Tomorrow

Loving you was never a choice made once,
Then left to gather dust among the years.
It is the quiet promise of each dawn,
The hand I hold through laughter and through tears.

I choose you when the kettle starts to sing,
And when the day leaves silence on my shoulders.
When laughter finds the corners of our home,
And sorrow makes the familiar world grow colder.

I choose you when our plans must change their course,
When dreams take longer than we thought they would.
When hope comes easily, when nights grow long,
I choose you still, through all we understood.

I know the road ahead will test our feet,
That some steep climbs will leave us short of breath.
There may be words we wish we had not said,
And nights when worry steals the gift of rest.
