In Fields Far Away Poem by Francis Duggan

In Fields Far Away

Just thinking of my younger years I do enjoy
When the swallows in Spring returned to Lisnaboy
They eat the flying insects and chirped as they did fly
O'er the rushy fields in the gray Irish sky.

I grew to love Nature in fields far away
From where I am living and growing old today
When cool winds of May through the old fields did blow
And the nesting birds sang on the leafy hedgerow.

Around the blossoming bushes and trees
The buzzings of the nectar gathering wild bees
And in the sunshine midst the grass made lush by recent showers
The raindrops were glistening on Nature's wildflowers.

My love for Mother Nature was beginning to grow
And though little of her ways I can claim to know
My great love of her as I age I retain
And until I die with me it will remain.
