In God's Embrace.... Poem by RIC BASTASA

In God's Embrace....

oh so you love someone
who never loves you back.
you are into a great sacrifice
but you still embrace this
journey, with whom you love,
and you feel so alone and hurt.

oh, i admire you for this,
you are that whale who goes ashore
to die.

it is its blood that turned the
sea read. it is its meat that feed
the hungry natives of
this wild and violent land.

no questions are asked as people
feast.
the old men still wonder if stupidity
is such a beautiful myth.

the fact is, you you try to impress,
it is not the death of the body
that ends love's journey.
it is not the fulfillment of love
that defines what is love.

it is the cliffhanger out there,
the silence that one takes upon oneself
after the whole story is told.

it is the void that remains
unspeakable. it is the sacrifice of
someone that makes this place
a wonder, despite the sadness and
the tragedy.

perhaps it is only the destruction
that you have seen, the broken bridge,
the burnt house, the bald mountains,
the driftwood on the shore,

it is this that impresses me of you,
the story of misery does not end with
the tragic death of the stupid martyr
it is the redemption of all broken selves
the rising of the souls towards the light,
towards a haven where eternity is rewarded,
to those who accept death with an open heart
to those who finally find their rest
in God's embrace.
