In Hidden Valleys, Where Peace And Tranquility Dwell Poem by Mohammad Younus

In Hidden Valleys, Where Peace And Tranquility Dwell

In hidden valleys, where peace and tranquility dwell,
I wandered in darkness, searching for light,
Ignoring chaos beyond my own mind.
Love, empathy, dignity, and humanity
were absent outside of me.
I boasted of a golden past to which
I did not belong, a past buried in history.

I longed to step into a future not yet born,
Reciting mantras and practicing yoga—
what folly, to disregard the true world
in which I presently live,
To be anxious about a world beyond.
It was a strange delusion.

Cloud upon cloud, my soul yearned to be free.
No longer do I wish to learn
the art of worshipping a sun
perpetually hidden by dark clouds.

Let me embrace the present,
the raw and real, the here and now.
In these hidden valleys,
I seek not a past that never was,
nor a future that may never be.

I cast off the shackles of illusion.
Let the clouds part,
Let the sun reveal its face.
For in this moment, in this breath,
I find my truth,
my peace, my serenity.
