In Old Age/ A Friend Means So Much

In old age
A friend means so much
Just having someone to speak with
And be with
Against the long silence of too much alone -

I could not reach a friend
And worried something had happened to him
And when after a long interval
he called
It was happiness to hear his voice
And know
He is still in the world,
As so many of my other friends
are not.
