In Our Existence Poem by Makhosonke Dhlamini

In Our Existence

We tasted the salt of our tears
saw the light when the birds craft the nest
saw the wind sweep the leave when June
is shivering in winter.

Studied the art of history
we then reach consensus
that history is science
science is philosophy

Philosophy is love of abstract and logic
theory is zig zag line in a straight form

The scholars mock us to death as they say
we are romantically blacklisted
your shame introduce you to Elder and my
marks in Epistemology and Metaphysics introduce
Me to Sibonisile, when we look at their eyes
we saw God image.

Saw the wish of certain farmer being deliver into
existence, it rained yesterday, even in house of the
woman they called a witch it rained, yesterday.
Saw roses died in the hands of soil
Saw pride in the shoulders of the man of army
guilty in his eyes.
Saw worry in the wealthy face
Heard the stomach of the lad groaning from hunger
Saw pain shake hands with joy
and faith watered the desert of life.
Saw
Time much no one knows, were too.
