In Ruins Poem by Allyson Gordon

In Ruins

As I run towards death
I take one last look back
The world is crashing down
I get out just in time
The sight before me is magical
The whole world on fire
In the bright glow of the flames
I see everything turn to dust
I smile at the thought of a fresh start
I leave all my memories behind
The freedom is indescribable
A weight has been lifted from my shoulders
I promise myself a better life
With no pain or sorrow
I walk away slowly
I leave the world in ruins
As I start my new life in death
