In Search For Me Poem by Herbert Dry

In Search For Me

I search for life and it's meaning I search
for me
Questions I ask I hunger I thirst for answers
from me they
flee

Is life only the beat of
a heart
It's only the thing that keeps life and
death apart

Is life more than breathing
air
I exist I survive I make do even when what
we call life is
not fair

I see I hear I touch that's not for which
I search
I look for meaning what gives life
it's worth

I have gathered I have kept I
have sold
These things brought no pleasure to
my soul

I met a person hungry shivering in
the cold
I went to my closet and a coat I begin
to unfold

I treated him with dignity like my
own folks
In conversation to each we kindly
spoke

I took him to town and bought him
a meal
The meaning of life I started
to feel

All of a sudden my life found
worth
My heart begin to pound I thought it was
going to burst

I did something that day I never did
before
I gave to a person like me who had no life from
the treasures of my heart I will
give evermore

I have found the meaning of life I have
found me
So long over due giving is the way it
should be
