In Slumber And Wake Poem by Maie Bauza

In Slumber And Wake

If I am to close my eyes and never to waken,
let my mind be filled with wonderful thoughts of you
for I have lived, but was forgone by emptiness.
I could not see your face, your eyes evade me;
how am I to drift to slumber when you're lost from my dreams?

If I am to close my eyes and never to waken,
let me be still and stay in your silence
for in such I have neither fear nor uncertainties.
I could not hear my voice, your own could not fill me;
how can I be of peace when thoughts of you fail to overwhelm me?

If I am to close my eyes and never to waken,
let God be giving and my wish fulfilled, let it be you that I last see
for the chance may be taken and could not be given once more.
Even for a time. A stolen moment. Even if it be a lie.
I'll then be happy 'til my last waking hour.
